Hay Lin returned with a beautiful box, in which lay a large magnifying glass that looked very old. The box had a Chinese dragon on the lid and smelled faintly of smoke.

Four heads simultaneously bent over the magnifying glass. First they just saw the enlarged blurry shape. But after a few seconds the image became sharper. A pair of piercing eyes under a straggly fringe. A crooked nose and a thin lipped mouth. It was hard to tell if the creature was young or old, but it looked sinister. Suddenly it stirred: it stretched out a hand towards them!

Hay Lin dropped the magnifying glass and Irma choked on her cake. Taranee took off her glasses and polished them on her jumper. Will lifted up the magnifying glass again.

“Did you see what I saw? I thought I just saw it move…”

Indeed! It is something from another world seeking contact. Amanitus comes from the land Muscarien. There one eats mushrooms, builds houses resembling mushrooms, yes - people even look like mushrooms. But all is not well in Muscarien. The King is losing control, he just wants to have fun and takes no responsibility for the country. The flame flickers weakly, and the mind of the king is clouded. It is up to the girls to blow life into the flame of clarity.

In the land of Muscarien everyone is happy, a little too happy it seems. No-one wants to hear bad news, least of all the king. And when the Court Soloist sings everyone applauds. But who exactly is she?
